Overview
All organisations need to make the most of the human resources available to them. This course focuses on how to carry out successful appraisal interviews to review progress, assess performance, identify training needs and set targets & objectives with agreed deadlines.
Who will the course benefit?
Any managers with limited experience of managing people and/or conducting performance reviews. Potentially all Managers could benefit from the workshop which would ensure a consistently high standard of review at that level. Any manager would gain valuable skills by attending.

Content Introduction
Welcome, introduction and objectives
Understanding of what successful performance management can achieve and what the benefits are to employees, managers and the organisation.
Objective Setting: Exercise on effective objective setting and accurate measurement of results.
Skills and Competencies: Introduction to the skills & competencies required by managers.
Exercise on objective measurement of skills and competencies and how to collect useful evidence.
Development Planning: Understanding development planning as an integral part of the performance management process, how to write a robust development plan to increase the effectiveness and motivation of individuals, and how to review progress against it.
Effective Performance Reviews: Discussion and observed practical exercise on the skills needed to carry out effective performance reviews – feedback given to include in action plan.
Exercise on preparing for performance reviews, including communication, measurement of results and preparing development plans.
Discussion to draw out understanding of excellent performance review skills and the effects of using them.
Input and demonstration on the skills needed and how to use them.
Practical action learning exercises based on real situations to practice the skills needed to effectively run performance review meetings – observed and feedback given to include in action plan.
Review objectives and close course
