Rob Conolly

I have worked in HR & training since 1981 and in the training dept of an insurance co since 1990 designing & delivering business skills.

What has been your most rewarding training experience?

‘Converting’ swathes of non supportive hard nosed commission driven sales managers to believing in and passing an AFPC qualification.

Any bizarre or amusing training stories?

One of the delegates on a two week technical life insurance course I ran once was deaf and dumb and brought a signer with him. He passed with flying colours.

What made you want to become a trainer?

Believing that I can engage with people and having an interest in what motivates people to behave in the way we do.

What would you be if not a trainer?

A professional footballer if I had the talent and the youth but as I have neither… a job working with interesting & intelligent people who don’t talk about themselves.

Which four words describe your training style?

Engaging, personal, fun, lively.

Feedback you’d most like to get from a delegate following your course?

The material was excellent & the trainer made the course fun & interesting… thanks very much.

Feedback you’d probably get from delegates following one of your courses?

Enjoyed the course & would recommend it to others: could have been longer.

Any words of advice for a delegate about to go on one of your courses?

Don’t be late & throw yourself into the exercises.

What’s the most fun you’ve ever had while on a training course?

Watching & discussing exercises in particular team building and motivational ones.

What’s the most important ingredient in order for a course to be successful?

An engaging trainer, interesting subject matter and time for debate and opinion.

People Skills

Fear and desire are the two motivating emotions behind every human behaviour.

It was very clear that the trainer had built great rapport with the delegates and they had full confidence in him to try their hand at anything.
